Well, it is still snowing..just creepy.. we had a lot of downed branches but we still have electricity but, Yikes the satellite when down...there are so many branches down behind our house too...hope none of these tree topple!
Donna lives in the Washington DC area, as do other dear friends, Shirley Ellis and Tom Vatter. The following are from their Facebook (photos) on Febuary 6, 2010:

We had a very wet snow of almost 30 inches and many many trees have fallen.... It sounds like the fourth of July here with all the tree limbs breaking.
This is what caused Snowmageddon 2010:

"...a gigantic storm in the North Atlantic...winds were not as strong as those in a Category 3 or 4 hurricane because the "pressure gradient" was spread out across a wide area rather than being concentrated in an eyewall, but nevertheless the North Atlantic storm is a very strong non-tropical cyclone, and huge in size... is part of a pattern which is setting up an atmospheric wall (boxed) and blocking the Mid-Atlantic storm from moving north. Thus, there's no snow north of a line from northern Pennsylvania to near NYC.... But in many places where there has been snow, it has snowed, and snowed, and snowed, and it's still snowing! A perfect combination of sufficiently cold air, a whole lotta moisture, a long duration of the snow falling, strong "dynamics" (wind energy), and some instability (which led to thundersnow!) has resulted in an epic snowstorm with huge accumulations -- unofficial reports of more than 30" between Washington and Baltimore and up to 22" near Pittsburgh...." (From TWC's Senior Meteorologist Stu Ostro's blog)
